Can anyone recommend some good zoo phone apps? Are there any with particularly good webcams?

You can view most zoo webcams via Flash in your mobile browser. Oh, yeah, sorry. :p :D

Seriously, the ZSL applications are OK, although most zoo-specific apps are designed to be used when you're actually in attendance. There are a few non-zoo but wildlife related apps that I like, BirdsPro being particularly useful for identifying native species.

I think the San Diego zoo has a pretty good iPhone app, the videos are really high quality.

Oh, and the Zoo Borns app is pretty great, if you want to lighten your mood with daily dose of cuteness :D

I made an app for the zoo! It is called Zoo Guide (ZooGuide - an animal education iPhone app). It is a very simple to use app and has a lot of animals. My friend and I have been working on it for a while an it was recently made available on the Apple app store ( It is for iPhones with iOS 7 or higher. I am also working on an Andriod version now.

The idea is to provide zoo-goers with the most interesting facts about zoo animals. All of the content was written for specifically for this app.

The coolest thing about the app is that it provides curated audio clips between 30 and 60 seconds that focus on the cool facts about each animal that are hard to forget.

It is not a particularly beautiful app right now but I am working on the next version with a graphic designer who is helping make it a lot easier on the eyes and give it more functionality. But right now the core functionality and content is there to have a fun learning experience at the zoo that go way beyond the information provided on the animal plaques.

Anyway, check it out and let me know what you think.
