Correct, however it is much easier to be able to participate in them while in the AZA

The reason they left still appears to be the elephants... or more specifically, with being told how to manage and care for their elephants. Perhaps there was also a more general frustration with the AZA and this elephant situation was more of a "straw that broke the camel's back" sort of thing, but without evidence I can't say that's necessarily the case.

I am concerned that the safety and well-being of both the elephants and the keepers at Pittsburgh is being compromised by this refusal to accept new standards. These new standards are meant to address animal welfare and the deaths of several keepers at free-contact facilities; they are not arbitrary or overreaching.

Does anyone know which zoo Baker is referring to where a death occurred while using AZA’s new standards? I can’t find that information, and I’m confused about how that might happen.

This is the most recent accident I can recall at an AZA facility with an elephant that resulted in a keepers death:

Are they from other institutions or rescues?
