Define private? Not AZA? I see a lot at roadside zoos. Not in a zoo? I see them at game farms but not often. Not USDA? I know a few in sanctuaries.
Plain zebras are kept by Czech circuses and from there, some get sold into private hands. I wouldnt call them pets, rather exotic animal that some people (very rarely) keep in their garden, similar to wallabies or tigers.
Yes, private as pet. I have zebras as pets and would like to find other people with zebras. I say pet because they are so extremely tame and cuddly. Jana, do you know of any in Czech keeping zebras ?
A couple of months ago some zebras escaped and took a walk in Brussels. These zebras were private owned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RW4a1WJy0g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJFaIOscykQ And this is the first time I see someone describing zebras as cuddly. Most people working with them use words like dangerous, vicious etc.
Yes, I have read about that the escaped zebras in Brussels, but unfortunately, I can not find who was the owner of them. Dangerous and vicious, thats what all people told me. I just couldn't believe it. I find it very easy to understand animals, and if you have the right mentality and listen to them carefully and understand them. Then you can get a zebra tamer than a horse. I do not know if it is allowed to link here, but search for ponyville.se, there you can find more about my thoughts of equines. Zebras can be very dangerous if they see people as a threat. A tame zebra donĀ“t see people as a threat and thats why a say cudly. Perhaps it is unique , I do not know ? That is why I would like to get in touch with more zebra owners.
