I am sure there are more, but these are the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Does anyone know about Nashville's South American exhibit? It is suppose to open in 2010, but I don't even think they have broken ground yet.
The Kansas City Zoo is in the process of constructing its' new polar bear exhibit for next year and they hope to get started on a new penguin exhibit for 2011.
Wow, thats a lot of constructions hopefully all goes through with no cut back and postpones. I am sure each exhibit will look great!
The Jaguar exhibit at the Queens Zoo is only in the planning/design stage, so I probably shouldn't have listed it. The Snow Leopard exhibit at Central Park took nearly 5 years from design stage to completion, which may be one of the reasons it turned out so good. WCS puts a lot of time and detail into all their exhibits. AEC at Cleveland shouldn't be postponed. The mock-rock already looks really good, and the pools have already been dug. The site the exhibit is being built on had a lot of natural trees, many of which will be part of the exhibit. Also, from the plans it looks like their will be a lot of attention to detail. It's not going to be the biggest though, about 2.25 acres worth of elephant yards, but it will be very high quality.
Jacksonville should have the phase 2 of Monsoon Asia (Tigers, Asian Small Clawed Otters, Gharials, etc) complete by 2011.
Indianapolis Zoo is building a new cheetah and bat-eared fox exhibit complex in the middle of their existing Plains area for 2010. Construction is in full swing.
I have added these: Vancouver Aquarium - Marine Mammal exhibits expansion Wonders of Wildlife - Expansion Boise Aquarium (On Hold?) Happy Hollow Zoo - Expansion Texas State Aquarium - Conservation Cove Phase III Virginia Aquarium - The Restless Planet To my knowledge they will open sometime in the next 2 years.
oo I didn't know Boise had an aquarium planned. Oregon Zoo's Red Ape Reserve Spring 2010 Will include a brand new home for Orangutans, and White Cheeked Gibbons. The Primate building will also transform into the Fragile Forest, where both primates and other forest species.
So what are you guys most excited for? What do you think will be the best exhibits? Most disappointing?
I'm more excited for the Pachyderm Forest to open of course. I'm also excited to see Giants of the Savanna, and MOLA. Also, the LA Zoo's Reptile House and Rainforest of the Americas will be completed in 2011 instead of 2010 as I mentioned before. The delay was caused due to the "Elephant wars" that we recently had.
