hi, can anyone provide an up to date species list for the off show area at plzen zoo? When I visited I went behind the scenes and saw most species in there (may 2018) but could not identify many of the species (mainly rodents, most species in the ‘larger animals area’ are easy to identify). Most birds were on show due to off show renovations, however many finches and some doves were still off show.
    Thanks

The following lists written by @Vision are not up-to-date, including many species which are now on-display or which have left the collection, but are probably the best resource for the task available at present:

I will be there next Tuesday (19th November) so I can update the small mammals part (bar anything housed in Madagascar house's off-show, but there shouldn't be any major catch-species and in Japanese garden) for you. Here is something from top of my head though:

    No longer kept:
    • Striped possum, Dactylopsila trivirgata
    • Greater hedgehog tenrec, Setifer setosus
    • Gundi, Ctenodactylus gundi
    • Greater guinea pig, Cavia magna
    • Steppe lemming, Lagurus lagurus
    • Mount Kulal spiny mouse, Acomys percivali
    • Egyptian Sundevall’s jird, Meriones crassus perpallidus
    • Wagner’s gerbil, Gerbillus dasyurus
    • Balochistan gerbil, Gerbillus nanus
    • Fat sand rat, Psammomys obesus obesus
    • Bushy-tailed jird, Sekeetamys calurus *
    • Alpine field mouse, Apodemus alpicola *
    • European harvest mouse, Micromys minutus
    • Mesic four-striped grass rat, Rhabdomys dilectus
    • Grandidier’s tufted-tailed rat, Eliurus grandidieri

    * - not sure about those
