According to its Youtube channel, their rhinoceros hornbill pair has two chicks in their box that are soon to leave it.
Could someone provide some info about the tigers at Prague - I know they have both Sumatran and Malayan, but some of my photos are a bit misleading, mainly due to being overconfident in thinking I could identify them when I got home. The first photo which looks to me like a Sumatran was in an enclosure signed as Malayan...and as for the second one - any suggestions appreciated
Might be a bit late, but I figured I'd reply anyways. New Guinea bronzewing: off-show, but visible if you're lucky from the path between the penguin enclosure and the rhea enclosure (behind the rheas, in the row of aviaries there). Bush bronzewing: the Australian aviary in the row of waterbird aviaries close to the shoebills. Horned lark: together with sandgrouses, palm thrush and woodhoopoe in the small wooden building next to the waterfowl aviaries. Barred laughingthrush & Silver-eared laughingthrush: In aviaries in either the areas labelled "laughingthrushes", "hornbills" or "pheasants" on the map. All these areas have a few laughingthrushes in them and the line-up hasn't been the same on all my visits so I don't know where exactly. Both species were on-show on my last visit, but not on my two first visits. Siberian rubythroat: Sichuan house. All the others I believe are off-show, unfortunately. The spotted crake and night heron might be on-show in the aviaries close to the shoebills as well, but I don't think so. Short-eared owl similarly might be present in the bird-of-prey aviaries close to the penguins etc. This was the situation in August 2017, I'm not sure if it has changed since.
Spotted crake is onshow in the European aviaries close to the petting zoo part. Short-eared owl is onshow in one of the owl enclosures close to the wolves and tigers. Saw horned lark. Did not see brush bronzewing, nor was it signed. Night heron is signed next to the shoebills, but I didn't see any.
According to ztl, Prague now keeps a pair of Crozet shags, the first zoo to ever hold some. Does anyone know where they came from or if they are on-show (probably not?)
Only Little Pied Cormorants on show this Sunday. I havent seen any info yet on this new addition. But I am surprised the zoo acquires new bird species now, instead of downsizing. Available show spaces are limited recently, the whole row of old aviaries along old elephant house is being demolished to make space for Australian section, and one large aviary behind Sichuan house is under reconstruction. So remaining waterbird or mixed aviaries are in some cases too overcrowded.
Zoo has begun work for new australian comlex. It will be home for Tasmania devils, Wombats, Swamp wallabies and other species of wallaby, Lord Howe Island stick insect, Echidna and australian birds. Exhibits will be located near the Rákos Pavilion and construction works are one of the reason why the Rákos Pavilion will be opened next year even if it is already completed.
Some recently bred animals: 2 Quince monitors (Varanus melinus) hatched this month, second generation in this zoo, the first animals in 2007 were sourced from illegally imported group saized by customs. 1 Secretary bird - hatched in incubator box in June but has returned under parents. 4 blesboks all born within few days apart. 2 Eurasian hoopoes - those hatched in June and so not yet on show.
I have access to arrivals database of the zoo and no Phalacrocorax melanogenys came. Prague Zoo currently doesn ´t import birds from third countries. The listing on ZTL is without source, probably someone mistaken them for Phalacrocorax melanoleucus. I already reported it, it should be erased.
It's a weird addition to Zootierliste as an error because the species would have to have been added to the website specifically for that purpose (if I recall correctly, there were no other zoo listings, current or former; and regular contributors to the site can't add new species can they?)
Active members from the old days (>5 years ago) often also got the power to add new species (and pictures) so there are enough people who could have made that mistake... That said it is still quite a remarkable error.
I could erase it myself, but I let the admin do it. Believe me, if it will be proven that this species is in Prague, I will be the first to post it on ZTL.
