Yokohama Hakkeijima Inc., the company behind Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise and five other Japanese aquariums, have announced plans for an aquarium in northwestern Taiwan. The new Taoyuan facility is expected to open in January 2020 and attract 1.6 million visitors in the first year.

Interesting. I don't know how they'll manage with the Taiwanese public attitude towards animal welfare. YH Sea Paradise, for instance, keeps a whale shark in a stadium pool throughout their dolphin shows; Taiwan's National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium was pressurised to release their last whale shark with the government being asked to halt any further plans for exhibition in the 33x22x~10m tank.
