Just returned from three weeks on the island of Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Very nice, tropical island with beautiful beaches, clear, warm water with lots of colourful fish. Fish very friendly - even take nibbles at you! Not too good for birds. Indian mynahs and chickens are the only two common species to be seen. The species observed were :- Pacific reef heron, Pacific golden plover, Grey-tailed tattler, Sooty tern, White tern and Pacific Imperial pigeon. Although I tried to find other species I was disappointed. Inland, the vegetation is quite thick, trees fairly high etc., and difficult to see much at all. House geckos were in the rooms.
