For the first time, golden mantellas bred in captivity have been reintroduced to the wild in Madagascar.

The mantellas were first rescued from the site of the Ambatovy mine and have been kept and bred for several years at the amphibian breeding facility of Association Mitsinjo. Now that suitable substitute habitats have been found the original founder population of frogs, plus their offspring, have been placed into secure enclosures in the new habitat which will be removed at a later date.

Here's hoping for success from this reintroduction.
