Literally the first line of the article posted in post #59 says, "Eight Namibian cheetahs have been airlifted to India, part of an ambitious project to reintroduce the big cats after they were driven to extinction there decades ago, officials and vets said." ;)

One of the female cheetahs at Kuno has successfully hunted and killed the calf of a nilgai antelope, weighing 25-30kg. The conservationists involved in the project hope that this means the cheetahs will eventually diversify the prey they take.

12 cheetahs from South Africa may arrive in February

The seven male and five female cheetahs are currectly in quatrantine enclosures in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo provinces of South Africa.

Speculations are running rife about the arrival of 12 more cheetahs to Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park, this time from South Africa. News outlets reported they will come to India on Republic Day (January 26, 2023).

But sources in South Africa have refuted this claim. The memorandum of understanding between the two countries has still not been signed, they added.

The Madhya Pradesh forest and wildlife department is making preparations for the arrival of the big cats, but the expert team from India is yet to leave for South Africa to oversee the inter-continental translocation.

Here is another relevant article. This is a great milestone for this conservation project!

First cheetah cubs born in India since extinction 70 years ago

India has welcomed the birth of four cheetah cubs - more than 70 years after the animals were declared officially extinct there.

India's environment minister announced the good news, calling it a "momentous event".

The country has been trying to reintroduce the big cats for decades, and last year brought eight cheetahs over from Namibia as part of the plan.

Another 12 cheetahs were brought to India from South Africa last month.

The situation is looking increasingly dire. The cheetahs have been released directly into the park, which I am not sure is fenced or not for several months now, the first introductions back in March (Kuno: India’s first cheetah couple released into the wild of Kuno National Park | India News - Times of India) which nobody seems to have mentioned.

Since then a total of six cheetahs have died, albeit half are the cubs of the aforementioned female.

As the article mentions thais has spurred the Supreme Court of India itself to take action, ruling that some of the cheetahs should be moved out.

2 cheetahs even escaped the park back in April, and one had to be captured and brought back.
