Any news on Ellora? Is she pregnant?

BTW, I've just started a new website on Indian Rhinos in European Zoos written in German: www.rhinos.eu :)

On your website you comment about the new calf at Nurberg and how it has a white foreleg(as the photo shows) In fact I have seen this before- the second calf(Suci) of Sumatran rhino Emi at Cincinnati was born with similar nonpigment on her foreleg. This marking seems to have faded as she grew older.

This is only the 2nd rhino I've seen like this but it is very frequent in Nile Hippos-many calves have the similar semi pigment/white markings on their toes and legs and so do some adults too. I do not know what these markings mean.

Thanks for the direction to Sumatran rhinos. My comment was only referred to Indian rhinos. Is there any picture available of Emi's calf with the "white" foreleg?

Has anyone seen that nonpigment phenomenon with other rhinos before?

Look for any of the photos of Emi with her newborn 2nd calf (the female Suci) at Cincinnati Zoo.

I've never seen this phenomenum in a Rhino calf(any species) before so this is Indian calf is only the 2nd time I have come across it.

Good news at Basel Zoo: Ellora and Quetta both are pregnant.
