Haloko, National Zoo's oldest western lowland gorilla, passed today. This sweet lady was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in December.

Haloko was wild born, in 1967. She was a quiet gorilla, much loved by the keepers, volunteers, and visitors.

She came to National Zoo in December 1989 from the Bronx Zoo. She is the mother of Baraka, the zoo's silver back.
