My wife and I visited this zoo this past Saturday and here are a couple photos of the Pride of the Prairie construction. Overall, I liked this zoo. Yes, some of the exhibits may seem ordinary, but they serve their purpose and it looks like the staff maintains them well. For this being out of the way, to me they have a pretty good collection of species out here. And as mentioned on here, the Museum part is absolutely awesome and well worth the price of admission.

In case you are wondering how lions will get up there

Also, here is how it ties to existing exhibit

I will post the map of the plan of this exhibit on this zoo's gallery page in the media section.

Other updates throughout the zoo, the current lions are on exhibit in the former Amur Leopard exhibit over in the big cat area of the zoo. There were no Sichuan Takins on exhibit and their exhibit was listed as a "Revolving Exhibit" on the new map that they hand out. Other than there doesn't seem to be much change from years past. I will probably upload new exhibit photos as the most recent ones are from 2012 I believe. It looks like some exhibits have grown up in terms of vegetation.

One last note, did get to see the baby White Rhino, Augustus, up close in the rhino barn.

Chain catshark tank planned for zoo:

Rolling Hills Zoo fundraising for unique shark experience, first in the state

A 3-thousand gallon salt water aquarium that will house chain cat sharks," VanZant shared as he stood where the new shark tank will be.

VanZant says these chain cat sharks don’t get too big, but they have a big surprise, “They are also bio-florescent… so not only will we have sharks in the zoo, we will have glow-in-the-dark sharks in the zoo," he added.

He says it’s a shark species not found in any other zoo in the state of Kansas.

Also in the article, it states that the area (which will be named Bamboo Bay) will include new restrooms, an event/concessions venue, and improvements to surrounding exhibits. The fundraising goal has been set at $300,000.
