Indeed; however the species list is still unaltered from the pre-closure list and as such is currently very inaccurate. A good development for the site to be back up though.

When I visited a couple of weeks ago a keeper told me that they are set for at least one Pygmy hippo...

They'd like to bring in Pygmy hippos but at the moment they're just on their wishlist.
The plan is to finish work on the current enclosures and possibly the lodges first.

Bearing in mind their acreage, personally that's where I'd leave them. Musk deer, chevrotains or duikers would be a better fit

They are about 10 acres now so i think pygmy hippo would fit well!

That is absolutely fantastic news! Even more so due to the fact that I thought they only had one:p

Possibly world first (or first out of Madagascar anyway)...

It is excellent news that a fanaloka has been born at the RSCC.

However, it is definitely neither a world first nor a first outside Madagascar; a fanaloka was born at the Washington Zoo in 1969.

Other recent births are a third litter of banded palm civets and also cubs from a new founder line of Sri Lankan rusty-spotted cats.

Yes RSCC`s facebook page claims a European first breeding.

Whatever is the case it is still without doubt a rare breeding and all credit once again to a superb specialist collection. I only wish it was bigger and fully open to the public 364 days a year!! (Maybe one day?)

Today two new pairs of clouded leopards arrived from the USA at the centre. There are now four pairs of clouded leopards at RSCC.
