The zoology museum in St. Petersburg, Russia has one of the world's largest animal collections and extends back 300 years in time. It is an educational resource as well as a scientific treasure trove of genetic information. They have two California condors from the 1850s that were collected when the Russians had an outpost on the California coast for their fur hunting industry. The DNA from the condors is being used in scientific studies.

Our fellow Zoochatter @Fishapod has an extensive photo tour of the museum in the gallery.
