The zoo confirmed that this male (Resort area) will be housed in the new enclosure together with a female (to be determined).

The male is indeed the male already in the Resort. The combination with the other species there is not going very well, so he is often alone and not on the mixed exhibit.

That explains a lot! I looked for black rhino multiple times during my stay at the Resort, but failed to see it on the mixed exhibit.

To be designed for a breeding pair and separate enclosure for growing calf. Quite substantial set up. When they first started exhibiting black rhino it was always my conviction they would acquire or go for a breeding situation.

Please, can anyone provide the names, gender and dates of birth of the two groups of Chimpanzees at Beekse Bergen?

The third episode of the making-of series for the Black Rhino enclosure. This episode is about the design of the enclosure. The video is in Dutch, but it gives a good idea of what it will look like.

In the Dutch zoo podcast 'ZooInside' Beekse Bergen tells they will get a second elephant bull. A new stable is getting build for him at the current stables. The current bull Calimero is not very active with the cows. The only cow he's interested in is Carla, but she's infrertile. Bongi, matriarch Punda's eldest daughter, has come to an age when it is necessary to get pregnant otherwise her cycle is likely to stop. Artificial insemination has been tried a few times but has not been successful so far.

I am glad they finally decided to bring in another bull elephant. I am afraid - for all good purposes - that bull Calimero is just not a very good prospect for breeding (if I am correct he has no living offspring other than some off chance matings with cows).

A new birrd species has arrived at the zoo, the Guinea pigeon (Columba guinea). I am not sure where the birds came from or how many the zoo has, but the image shows atleast 2 birds.

Can any regular visitors please confirm that the male gorilla, born 15 July 2020, has been given the 'wonderfully dutch name' (one of the 5 proposed for public vote) of MOOS ?

Has the construction of the new barn for the second bull elephant started yet?

Not a regular visitor, but yes, his name is indeed MOOS...

Not sure. Beekse Bergen hasn't shown anything yet.

A Black crested mangabey was born in the Beekse Bergen. This birth is unique: worldwide it is the only young of this species that can be admired in a zoo. The gender is not yet known.

It is unique in that it is the only birth in the past year, I believe that’s what they’re referring to.

What they are referring to is the fact that it is currently the only young of this species in a zoo worldwide.

Two spotted hyenas were born. The two pups, whose sex is not yet known, are doing well. With these two pups Safaripark Beekse Bergen has now a total of eleven spotted hyenas divided over two different groups.
