An updated map of the zoo has been posted on the website: Map Unfortunately, when you click on it to get the pdf version, it reverts back to the old map. But from what it can be seen, the old kopje is shaded. Only the meerkat exhibit and fynbos area of Africa Rocks looks like will be open.
Eagle Trail. It's listed on the map as under construction. It's the large, tall boardwalk next to the raptor aviaries.
Eagle Trail, sorry. How far is construction there? Last time I went, they had Harpy Eagles and Andean Condors.
Wow, I am quite impressed with what i'm seeing. The ground space looks very nice with a good mix of rock and sand, and the underwater views look spectacular. Lets hope that the rest of Africa rocks lives up to the hype. Also, is that a pop-up bubble to the left at the start of the video?
One more thing. The leopard sharks (filling in for African sharks) aren't in the video. It may just be speculation, but I fear that they may not even be ready by the time of opening.
I'm sure you saw this, but better safe than sorry. When he says it's opening July 1st,only the penguins will be open July 1st. On the Africa Rocks website (africarocks.sandiegozoo.org),only the penguins are listed as "On tour 7/1" while the rest say coming soon,so when you go,not every exhibit may be open yet.
I find it so bothersome that they consider the Kopje part of Africa Rocks. The exhibit more or less as it stands today was already there. But back to the topic at hand, are the Bateleurs back on exhibit yet?
The Kopje was the most modern exhibit in the old incarnation of Africa Rocks, back when it had the grottos and leopard cages. That's why they kept it.
I was not aware they were doing any work on the raptor aviaries (Eagle Trail). Perhaps it is closed for construction of the new bridge going over it?
I believe that the walkway that goes by the aviaries is getting a refurbishment. It has been closed since January so it should open soon. Also the bridge isn't going over that area of the zoo.
If they do the standard 30 day quarantine then obviously they will not be in the exhibit on the July 1 opening. If the penguins were not there they could just quarantine them in the exhibit, since it is new. I wonder if they will do this anyway?
