The article didn't say they were getting relief. It just says that representatives are asking Speaker Pelosi to add SDZ and SDZSP to the relief bill. I would think that if they were added, then other zoos would be added too? SDZ isn't the only zoo even in California facing issues.

Hopefully all reputable zoos can be added. The AZA has been lobbying for that I believe.

Agreed on the interpretation. They want a piece of the pie, just like countless cultural institutions that are trying to be included in future bills. Personally, I don't feel this zoo is any more entitled to relief compared to other zoos. Considering the San Diego Zoo Global has the largest budget of any zoo in the country by far (double the WCS's zoo spending), I doubt even if a future bill has the funding it'll receive close to what it needs.

Excellent news and the Peninsular pronghorn ex situ population continues to expand: These are - by my reckoning - the first births for the species in San Diego.

Previously, they provided back-up as holder of bachelor males.

Does anyone know what happened to Denver, a Sumatran tiger at the tiger trail. Cause in their new video the park released that’s called meet our tigers he isn’t mentioned on there

I believe that the tiger in the thumbnail is Denver, he looks exactly the same in that thumbnail as he does on a twitter post from a while back introducing him and Dianna. It’s on their Facebook as well but it won’t let me copy the link on mobile for some reason  hope this link works now San Diego Zoo Safari Park on Twitter

The tiger in the thumbnail of the video in your post is Denver, however, the Safari Park indicated in a response on Facebook that he sadly passed away recently (sometime after the Park closed due to COVID-19).

San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park will be opening on June 20th. I just caught an error of mine, the reservation was only for the preview night on June 15th but there are no reservations currently as of its official opening date!

Have people seen other zoos do this? I personally strongly prefer reservations that guarantee entry over the first-come, first-served model (and a potential for significant waits that you only find out about upon arrival) San Diego is pursuing.

I don't think I've seen any others doing it that way. Their capacity is much larger than most though, especially since they have hardly any indoor buildings.

From what I read, they are allowing groups of people to come in about 200 at a time or possibly 200 total for a certain amount of time. I do agree that reservations would help in regards to allowing the exact amount of people coming in yet SD is massive and can accommodate more people if properly managed. I should hopefully be able to make it for the Curator’s Preview day on Monday but we’ll see how it goes and report back how it went, I accepted the invite for SD Zoo since it’s easier for me to travel to.

200 total seems like very few people for these zoos. Beardsley's capacity is roughly 1000 people and following the state mandate of half capacity max, they're allowing up to 500 in at one time.

A Cheetah cub was born April 29:

The San Diego Cheetah Cub Is Growing Fast

The female cub was born April 29 to first-time mother Mary Jane, at the Safari Park’s Cheetah Breeding Center. Cheetahs that give birth to only one cub, called a singleton, generally cannot produce enough milk to keep the cub alive and will often abandon the cub."

At around three months old, she'll leave Safari Park and make a new home with the cheetahs of San Diego Zoo. More than that, she'll be appointed "an ambassador of her species," helping to educate visitors on conservation matters and more.
