we was informed that yes ,why cant they be ? from what i can recall there was 20 odd when we last visited rscc
Does anyone know if Todd Dalton will still keep any animals privately elsewhere, or will he still be "involved" in the new wildlife park ?
we was informed todd was taking his collection of clouded`s to north devon , dont know any more than that , i hope he does open somewhere else
I don't disagree that the collection was the draw for the membership of zoochat - but what is self evident is that this alone does not make for a commercial success. I am interested to see where Wingham will go with this new site - I think they've shown good judgement in growing their main park and if I had a young family I would certainly pick Wingham over Howletts as a visitor attraction. As they've said it will have a more personal atmosphere I wonder if they aim to run it as a site focused on up close 'experiences' / photography days etc. Last time we visited RSCC they were in the middle of building overnight guest accomodation which would fit with this concept. Just to clarify - I have no inside information, this is just a thought I have had.
Well in that case they will need to sort out the planning issue with this accommodation, which still wasn't finished last time I saw it after the site had closed to the public!!
Well yes, obviously... or do away with the concept of overnight accomodation altogether which is equally possible.
The park will now not open till 2018, work is ongoing clearing the bamboo and extending the bear enclosure. Sandwich Wildlife Park to open in 2018
Looks like the do intend to use the overnight accomodation then... I stand by my prediction that this site will be used to host close up encounter type guests and suchlike...
Before 'Rare' closed I was told they'd be getting red-shank douc langurs, and supposedly Wingham too. That was 2 years ago so obviously it didn't happen, but maybe that's an inkling Sandwich could go down a similar route.
Noticed on the park's facebook page that common cusimanse had arrived. On checking the park's website it seems that as well as the aforementioned clouded leopard, maned wolf, ring-tailed lemur and cusimanse, the following species have also been added: - Cheetah - Meerkat - African crested porcupine - Common squirrel monkey - Black-tailed marmoset - Lesser flamingo
Interesting they already are adding animals if the park will not open for another year. I wonder if they will do some sneak previews for members or special fee guests?
It's like those fanaloka, echidna and tarsiers never existed! The website includes this gem too: "Sandwich Wildlife Park is not your average wildlife park". Hmmmm....
They have updated their website with these animals, seems the clouded leopard has gone? African Crested Porcupine African Pygmy Goat Alligator Snapping Turtle Blue and Gold Macaw Cane Toad Cheetah Common Kusimanse Common Squirrel Monkey Harlequin Macaw Lesser Flamingo Llama Maned Wolf Meerkat Nile Crocodile Pygmy Marmoset Ring Tailed Lemur Senegal Bush Baby
Don't they have clouded leopard at Wingham now? I always assumed it was the one they received when they took over Sandwich? I've got no evidence, but it makes sense. On a related note I'm surprised they haven't moved the maned wolves over to Wingham, they'd be a bit more of a draw at a public collection!
This place appears to be mainly a holding area for surplus stock from the main zoo 10 minutes up the road! Unless it's about a fiver entrance fee, I can't see the visitors flocking!
Updated list and they seem to be using the site for accommodation too African Crested Porcupine African Pygmy Goat Alligator Snapping Turtle Bennett’s Wallaby Blue and Gold Macaw Cane Toad Cheetah Common Cusimanse Common Palm Civet Common Squirrel Monkey Harlequin Macaw Lesser Flamingo Linnaeus’s Two Toed Sloth Llama Maned Wolf Meerkat Nile Crocodile Pygmy Marmoset Raccoon Dog Ring Tailed Lemur Senegal Bush Baby Southern Tamandua Tiger
I stand by my previous post, there is nothing unusual at the moment, this is still just a holding area for the main zoo 10 minutes away, several of these are just animals moved out of Wingham e.g Tamandua and bushbaby, nile crocodile Most rarely seen species is Lesser Flamingo, which also haven't been at Wingham!
Their USP is experiences as I predicted - including the tamandua and maned wolf: Sandwich Wildlife Park: the Most Exclusive Animal Experiences in Kent ...and they will be providing holiday accomodation too: Sandwich Wildlife Park: the Most Exclusive Animal Experiences in Kent I get the impression from the website that they will open the park up for general admission at some point - but atm they are only offering the experiences and make it clear that you will not be free to explore the park on your own as part of this:
