To start a specific news thread, twin European moose have been born. https://www.facebook.com/KingdomPho...2552522471271/733086720084512/?type=1&theater
Assume you mean the caribou . Don't know but it could be correct , they also list domestic reindeer in their holdings . According to ZTL there are some caribou in Europe .
I suspect they have merely copied the scientific name from elsewhere on the internet having searched for the word "Caribou" as a synonym for "Reindeer", as the species profile on the website describes their stock as European: As such, although it is certainly possible they are true Caribou - as the taxon is around in Europe, in low numbers - it is more probable they are domestic Reindeer. They are unlikely to be Eurasian Forest Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus fennicus) as this is a taxon managed as a studbook, and as such unlikely to be misidentifed.
Bukhara Deer- that might explain if there was one less male than I anticipated at HWP in September- if one had already moved then. I guess this second move leaves HWP with 2.2.
Scottish Deer centre under new ownership. Plans going forward include Arctic foxes, red pandas, and a more family-friendly experience Scottish Deer Centre: Exclusive behind-the-scenes look as park prepares to reopen
Takin, goral, snow leopard, Amur leopard and Amur tiger. European vultures, white-tailed sea eagle, red kite, ibex and chamois, beaver, cranes, storks, bustards, grouse, mountain hare, dormice, voles, some amphibians and fish and European songbirds and birds of pine forests and glens?
The Scottish Deer Centre have recently announced the arrival of two European grey wolves 'Max' and 'Mel'. They are two year old sisters who originated from Longleat Safari Park. Information comes from the Scottish Deer Centre Facebook page.
European elk youngster 9 month old Egret has moved from the Highland Wildlife Park. Unsure how many elk they keep here now?
2 Bactrian deer (the first to be held here since 2019) and 1 White-lipped deer have arrived from Highland Wildlife Park: 登录 Facebook
Coincidentally, I visited today: There has been a lot of changes since the new onwership. Here’s some changes I saw today: • The red foxes seem to have left the collection, their enclosure lies empty. • The former reindeer enclosure at the entrance has been made into a jelly belly. The reindeer have moved into the former enclosure that housed an Asian species of deer next to the the moose (any help on what species that was?) • The wildcat enclosure has been redone, with a large overhead tunnel going over you. • Several large rubber animals (a crocodile, tortoise and frog to be exact) got placed next to the wildlife pond for some reason. • One of the giraffe statues from Edinburgh Zoo is now in the courtyard. • The old go-kart track (not the predator and prey one, the smaller one) has been changed into a weird little bunker with some signs about climate change in it. • The education room is open to the public, which has Corn snakes and giant African land snails in terrariums, and some animal skulls, animals and pelts, without any signage about them (much to my annoyance.) • A mural got painted on the side of the brown bear den. • The wolves were very active and were running around and play fighting. • The new crepe shop next to the wolves looks very nice, although I didn’t get a crepe. • Highland cows are in part of the red deer enclosure, next to the wolves. • Unfortunately, the bears, lynxes, muntjac, hog deer and otters were no-shows. • I had a toastie from the café, and it was very nice. • The birds that do the show have all their cages now on view to the public, with some of them on perches. Although the cages were pretty bleak, it was good to be able to see them outside of the show. • Sadly, some very annoying children, who did not stop shouting the whole time I saw them, were throwing deer pellets at the female Elk, who was getting very stressed. Luckily, one of the other kids told them that you weren’t allowed to feed them. Disgraceful. • A gulf war plane is on show to the public. It cost s £15 to get a picture of you in the plane with a “pilot”. It’s great to see the new owners really getting things done with the place, with it looking a lot smarter and nicer than when I last visited 3 years ago. Hopefully it continues to improve. P.S: Has the education room always been open to the public? It seems as if before it was for school trips or something. PP.S: The tunnel that you went through to get to the park has been knocked down. A shame, I have good memories of looking at the pictures on the walls when I was little.
