To date, the only male the calf has been introduced to is Makani, so it definitely wouldn't be Ulises. Who you saw was probably Kasatka, Makani and Kalias mother.

As it stands, the calf has been introduced to all the females, so Kasatka, Shouka, Orkid, and Corky, as well as Makani.

AFAIK, she hasn't been introduced to any of the males (aside from Makani), however I imagine that the next whale to be introduced will be Nakai (its honestly rather strange he hasn't been introduced yet, as he was with Makani by the time he was 9 days old), followed by Keet, followed by Ikaika, followed by Ulises.

Sorry,I'm absolutely terrible with identifying the orcas, but I definitely should have known it wasn't Ulises,as the orca in the tank didn't have the drooping fin Ulises has.

A video of one of the shows on Kalia's 10 birthday. There are some snippets of information on Kalia and her Calf, which is why I posted a video of a show, which I wouldn't normally do.

Good news for once from the "whales-in-captivity"-front.

What crime have the animals began that they will be punished and forced to live in "Captivity"?

Imprisonment is an instrument of human criminal justice, used to punish the criminals .Does animals know anything about human crimna ljustice ? I bet, no.I find it unfortunate that even "Zoofriends"talk about the zoo animals live in captivity-the animal rights activists may like that very much ... The term"captivity" is ALWAYS negative.

Sorry for this offstopic-but it was time to say that once.

@Bib Fortuna: You are running into open doors, my friend. But it was the term that was used in the article.

And by the way: Animal rights activists may even like it very much if someone is writing "animal XY can not be kept in zoos"...

Mayxbe, but nevertheless, most zoofriends use it-even in german zoomagazines or fourms...

Point 2:Yeah,but it is the truth...in some points, zoo activists are not wrong, wouldn't you agree, Zoomaniac ?;)Think about it.I'm interested in zoos, of course, but I stand against them more critical than you.;)

Some non Killer Whale related news.

First, there has been an uptick in the number of Sea Lion strandings, to the point of NOAA considering declaring an unusual mortality event. A large number of them are at SeaWorld undergoing rehabilitation.

Also, SeaWorld's penguins are participating in a research project. They are test driving equipment for a research project that will take place in Antarctica with Emperor Penguins in order to see if said equipment will impede their movement while it is attached to their backs.

    I just realized it isn't 2013 anymore.

Nearly two dozen marine mammals are being cared for SeaWorld following last weeks oil spill.

Unfortunately several of them have died while in care, including two dolphins and several pinnipeds. Necropsies are planned. Currently 17 Sea Lions and five Elephant Seals are being cared for.

Also, the park is caring for a Sea Lion who has been impaled by what appears to have been a spear, so deeply that it needed to surgery to have the spear removed. The Sea Lion has been named Bubba and it is expected that he will be released.

How long does it take to get construction permits in San Diego? Also, are they a matter of public record or are they more private? Just wondering so I can keep better track of this.

I wonder how long the actual construction will take.

Apparently 3 construction walls have been erected near Shamu stadium. Could this be the beginning stages of preparation for the Blue World Project,or just maintenance?
