Today the zoo announced the return of Anoki, a polar bear born there in 1996. I had a feeling this move was going to happen and it makes sense with the size of the exhibit and her history there. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.democratandchronicle.com/amp/1355840002
The exhibit is a little outdated, but it is in no way horrible. For an older polar bear living out her final years, it's a great spot. In the past couple years, Anoki liked the freedom to go into her holding area when she wanted to. I am sure she will have access to that here and if she's anything like her mother, she will savor the privacy in the moat areas. When I visited last month, grass was growing in a spot so I think they added natural substrate in the past year. I think Anoki will also enjoy the snowier winters up in Rochester. She loves snow!

It sounds like the fired employee had an 8.5 year run in the position that was not satisfactory over the course of that time, it is difficult to prove age discrimination when a paper trail of job performance complaints exists!
I worked under him (supervisor of my supervisor) when I was in the education department the summer of 2009. However, it's been too long to remember his work ethic plus technology was not as advance back then. So I guess I would be neutral about this incident.
A third Masai giraffe, a male named Parker from the Santa Barbara Zoo, has joined the collection. It's hoped that in time he'll mate with the two females that arrived earlier this year:https://www.democratandchronicle.co...ls-savanna-expansion-rochester-ny/1858961002/

After being placed on the IDA's worst zoos for elephants list, the zoo has officially responded. https://www.democratandchronicle.co...-worst-elephants-list-ranking-roc/2536475002/
Thank goodness a zoo picks up the stick and throws the non arguments back in the face of these hidden agenda IDA listers'. It is a pain in the neck when inaccurate facts are presented as truth (I mean this is something completely different than the unjustly bandied about and termed "fake news" items).
