Servion Zoo in the Swiss canton of Vaud has had some new developments under way:

Snow leopard enclosure due to be completed October 2010. Looks like a large and natural looking enclosure.

Brown bear enclosure opened this summer with a pair of bears called Martin and Martine.

Excellent news! Any idea where the snow leopards will be sourced from?

Re the bear enclosure: any interpretation re the status of European brown bears in the Alps and conservation programmes to reintroduce or increase their number in the Alp mountain regions of Suisse, Austria, southern Germany and Italy-France?

 

Has anyone on here been to Servion Zoo?

 

Servion will receive Komodo Dragons for the first time in 2014: They will be housed in a new tropical house which will also include new exhibits for some of the zoos existing species including Siamese Crocodile, Galapagos Tortoise and Iguanas

3 months ago 3 ( 2-1 ) Syrian brown bears were born at Servion .

 

I am glad someone seems to realise there are Eurasian brown bear species that need conservation breeding attention. It seems in this respect smaller zoos are more active on this front than the larger mainstream.

 

In June, 3 northern Eurasian lynxes were born.

Many births this spring, including :

• 1 Bison
• 3 Mouflons
• 2 Wallabies
• Wild Boars

I haven't more information about the species they belong.
