The advertising for the new Shanghai Polar Ocean Kingdom suggests they have them, and they are becoming almost obligatory for a Chinese mega-aquarium. If not then you are looking at a long trip to either Chengdu in the west, Guangzhou in the south or Yantai in the north. Chengdu or Guangzhou are both good places for a zoo nerd to go generally.
It would be super convenient if Shanghai polar ocean kingdom have them! Sadly I can’t go to chengdu, a place I really wanted to go, as my itinerary is full, I should be going to Indonesia, Singapore, Australia and hopefully New Zealand too!
No whale sharks in Australian Aquariums, and i’m pretty sure there are none in New Zealand Aquariums too. The lucky thing is, there are experiences you can do in Australia to see Whale sharks in the wild.
Polar Ocean Kingdom have definitely built a whale shark aquarium. Whether or not it's got any whale sharks in it yet doesn't seem particularly clear from their website. You'd have thought they'd have put a better picture in really.
But pangolin12 has already said they are going to Australia as part of the trip, so in theory Perth might well be very convenient. It really depends on where in Indonesia they are going, but pangolin12 may also want to look at whale shark diving options there. They would presumably be much cheaper than in Perth.
I visited Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park yesterday and they don't have any whale sharks right now. They definitely have a tank for them though so either none have arrived yet or they had one/some and lost them. @pangolin12 when is your trip?
