I'm very shocked at the decision to send Dreamworld's tigeress Soroya up North. The pairing of Raja and Soroya seemed to me like the most intelligent move ever made regarding sumatran tigers in the region.

Because they were both from Germany, any cubs they produced were unrelated to our tigers and therefore suitable mates. It elimanated the need to import other tigers as ours required mates. The pair produced five female cubs but never had any males.

By up north do you mean Cairns???

where did you hear this from? Not dsputing it I do not know. Even so if the pairing is to be with Hari then this doesn't come as much of a shock. He is a valuable animal to the region genetically. I believe Dreamworld may already have one of his cubs from Perth (Could be rong on that one though)

well that's interesting because I thought Sraya had gone to Mogo. So which is the correct rumour? Is it definate that she is not at Dreamworld anymore?

As i posted on another thread, the ARR says that Soroya is to be transferred to Mogo Zoo and i doubt that a recommendation would be changed unless in exceptional circumstances.

    :)

If you want to make credible posts please state the source of your information. Recs can change even after an animal has been moved to another facility. . . Basically nothing is set in stone until the animal is pregnant and recs may change up to this date.

I believe, and this is not fact, that the priority for Sumatran Tiger pairings at the moment is focused on a different Australian Zoo.

Hari has four cubs in our region, Sali at Dreamworld and Jaya, Satii and Melati at Perth Zoo.

Just how many tiger enclsoures do Mogo Zoo have? They now hold Malu, Larry, Dougall and now Soroya!

What??? Wasn't the point of this thread to say that Dreamorld was sending Soroya north? I'm confused now.

What about old Rosco? Is he still alive? He was about 18 months ago when I was last at Mogo - just after they lost his sister Kitty.

Oh for the love of townsgate! 5 tigers in 5 separate exhibits, is Mogo Zoo some sort of endless field of tiger enclosures?

    Mogo Zoo

Soraya has been at Mogo now for coming up to one year. Unless something has dramatically changed they are planning on breeding her there.

Thanks Ptig! I still have not got an answer from Connor. The title of this thread is Shock decision for Sumatran Tigers, what is this shock decision? And where did it come from?

in other words, he knew full well that 'Soroya' had gone to Mogo so he's either deliberately trying to obfuscate the forum (as he seems to intentionally be doing a lot of) or he's simply an idiot
