I have a strange question to ask... Are the Singapore orangutans known to engage in homosexual behavior? There is a youtube account that uploads many videos of the "orangutan island" which seems to have a dominant male, a female and 3 sub-adult males. And here for instance is a video: ()

of the dominant male Satria mating with what I believe is the sub-adult male Budi? Although it seems that Budi suffers from hypogonadism, possible due to the inbreeding mentioned earlier. I did not realize orangutans engaged in such behavior.

Homosexuality is not uncommon in non human primates. There have been studies showing wild orang utans engaging in homosexual behaviour, so it is not because of a captive grouping. One such study here:

Homosexual behavior in wild Sumatran orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus abelii) - Fox E.A.

This is how Gunta looks like now. He was born in Singapore Zoo in 2002. He’s now at Zoo Negara. His mother is Binte II and his father was Jojo.

It would be fitting to see this also in the Zoo Negara, Kuala Lumpur zoo thread.

I'm quite curious if historically, certain members of the Sumatran orang-utan colony at Singapore Zoo may have actually been Tapanulis.

Would be fascinating to see the results of a DNA test among the troop.
