Does anyone have information on chimpanzees at Singapore Zoo? Names, offspring, DOBs etc.

    Any help appreciated.

I know of Ida (born 1970 in Germany). She sired 8 offspring, most recently Asha and Rah. I’m wondering if anyone knows what was the fate of Biddy, Bianca, Gemini, Georgie and Flint (arrived from Taronga zoo 1982)?

    Biddy (F) born 01/01/1950; Gemini (F) born 16/10/1970; Flint (M) born 01/12/1971; Bianca (F) born 09/11/1979; and Georgie (F) born 03/11/1981 all arrived at Singapore Zoo 08/09/1982.

    Biddy died 30/08/1989.
    Gemini died 03/09/1985.
    Flint died 19/05/1990.
    Georgie died 21/03/1983.

As you can see, these four sadly all died young. I’m not sure of the cause but I read somewhere on here about a number of gorillas dying at Singapore Zoo because of something in the soil (bacteria?) so maybe it affected the chimpanzee troop also.

Bianca is still alive and recently gave birth to a female infant named Nini in 2018. Bianca has previously given birth to at least one other infant, a male named Manzi in 1999, but that’s all I can find of her offspring.

I found a Youtube video listing the composition of the main group in 2020 being:
Alpha male Togo, Bianca with son Jengo and daughter Nini, Ida and daughter Asha, Gangga and daughter Akinyi, and Suzie.
With four other chimps in a smaller group.

I may be reading it wrong but Bianca has all of those daughters?! Or are those Bianca’s daughters and then their respective offspring?

Thanks for finding that @marmolady. Singapore Zoo wouldn’t share any information on their chimpanzees when I contacted them, but what I’ve found online is:

    1.0 Togo (1972 - Wild)
    0.1 Bianca (09/11/1979 - Taronga Zoo)
    0.1 Suzie (1973 - Wild)
    0.1 Ida (14/08/1973 - Hanover Zoo)
    0.1 Ganga (08/02/1993 - Unknown)
    0.1 Nini (00/01/2018 - Singapore) Bianca

I had a list from a few years ago which also listed:

    1.0 Manzi (00/00/1999) to Bianca - exported 2008
    1.0 Makhulu (07/05/2000) to Suzie - exported 2008
    1.0 Nkosi (27/06/2000) to Ida
    0.1 Rah (07/12/2004) to Ida
    1.0 Kimoni (13/08/2007) to Ganga
    0.1 Ainka (29/08/2007) to Suzie
    0.1 Zanta (16/08/2008) to Bianca

I’d assume the separate group of four you mentioned are from this list - probably the youngest four, which would now be adolescents. I’d assume Nkosi has been exported (or died).
