This I am curious about. Like many others I too have tried asking to see this monkey and was denied access.
Yes she is. She is currently integrated with the Javan Langur free-ranging troupe, and this will be her home as long as she is with us.
Red ruffed lemur twins born Feb 22: Critically endangered red ruffed lemur twin babies born in Singapore Zoo This is the first time the red ruffled lemur has been born here since the birth of the twins' father Bosco more than a decade ago. The twin's mother is Minnie, an eight-year-old brought to Singapore in 2016 from Yokohama Zoo in Japan.
The introduction started a few months ago, only recently has she been released with the rest of the troupe.
Singapore Zoo has announced the birth of a Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo to first-time mother Nupela. They posted an interesting video of the joey's progress and development. Is Satria a non breeding individual? He’s always in the Bornean enclosure, but he’s a Sumatran Orangutan.
I stand corrected on my earlier reply. The 2 females are descended from the late Ah Meng, which is Satria's mother. But I am not sure of their exact relation to Satria (probably niece or grand niece).
Ah Meng (1962-2008) was the mother of Hsing Hsing (1975-2017), Medan (1980), Hong Bao (1983-2004), Sayang (1990-2013) and Satria (1996). Hong Bao was the mother of Chomel (1996); Sayang was the mother of Ishta (2011) and Endah (2012). Therefore Satria is the uncle of Chomel, Ishta and Endah. Medan has two offspring: 1.0 Riau - born 15/09/1991 (Sire: Kamal) 1.0 Budi - born 30/05/2002 (Sire: Zabu) Medan was still alive in 2018; and since I can find no mention of her death since, I would assume she is still alive.
Thank you so much I never knew that Budi was Medan’s offspring. There has been very little information on Medan and her offspring. WRS post a family tree of Ah Meng on facebook back in 2016 but it left out Medan’s line for some unknown reason.
No problem - they probably left out Medan's line because she is Ah Meng's only hybrid offspring. Her other offspring are all purebred Sumatran orangutan. Hong Bao also had two daughters that are now deceased - Depa (1991-2001) and Mira (2000-2003).
Ohh i see, that makes sense. I've heard that Riau is the orangutan that is housed together with Charlie in the sumatran orangutan enclosure. Riau's always hiding in the back. He seems shy. i'm not sure where is Budi being kept tho? Oh dear that's really sad. Depa and Mira passed away so young. Yup Depa and Mira was included in the family tree. I had assumed they were sent to other zoos, because the family tree didn't indicate whether they're deceased or still alive.
A new species in the Reptile Garden, not be mentioned on the board. My friend told me it is Macklot's python.
Yes, it is the Savu Island subspecies of Macklot's Python (Liasis mackloti savuensis). It is not a new animal, it has been with the Zoo for many years, mostly off-show but was briefly displayed at the old Snake House. Glad to see it back on display at RepTopia.
Thanks a lot. May I ask one more question, PM Lee mentioned in his FB that one female Grévy's zebra is already pregnant, this is really good news. Any idea, these zebras coming from which zoo?
I can only confirm they were not yet on the listing WRS AR 2018/2019, however I do guess either European or Japan in origin.
