Birth of a Grevy's Zebra foal

A male Grevy's Zebra foal was born here at the zoo a few days ago on the 28th of December 2021. It is the half-brother of Izara, who was born on the 30th of September last year.

    Exchange with Taipei Zoo:

Taipei Zoo adds three reptile species - Taipei Times

Singapore Zoo has exported golden mantella frogs, yellow-banded poison dart frogs and rough knob-tailed geckos to Taipei Zoo. It will receive four species of poison dart frogs in exchange.

The zoo's map swapped the locations of the gharial and saltwater crocodile for some reason, why did they even do that?

The tomistoma is in its usual place. Last I recall, there's only 1 lying under that bridge and it doesn't do much

There are 7 or 8 Sunda Gharials at Treetops Trail. And yes they produced eggs last year. About 9 have survived from the clutch. One of the babies is on display at Reptopia.

The breeding pair of Indian Gharials have swapped exhibits with the single male Estuarine Crocodile. The Burmese Roofed Turtles have joined the Indian Gharials in their new exhibit - which has underwater viewing.

I also noticed that some of them are now in river safari where the Chinese alligators used to be (Ik theyre in the zoo now) tho they don't fit the Yangtze River theme at all. Then again there's guanacoes in the Amazon boat ride

It is a good thing that the more valuable crocodilian species take precedence over estuarine. I personally find them interesting, but they are usually displayed rather gimmicky as being the biggest the baddest .... Yes, I am not Animal Planet minded ....., I guess.

Do they still have Chinese alligators? How many and any chance of breeding this rare crocodilian? Obtained from PR China or from the US/Europe?

There is one juvenile Sunda Gharial at River Wonders' former Chinese Alligator exhibit. This is a confiscated animal, not one of those bred at the Zoo.

Yes, the 1.2 Chinese Alligators are now all housed together at the Zoo's Reptile Garden to encourage breeding. They used to be housed separately.

Mandai Wildlife Group recently acquired a bachelor group of Francois' Langurs. They will probably remain off show for now and go on display at Rainforest Wild Asia when it opens in 2024.

So aside from the new Bird Park (which may still open in 2022) and the rainforest Park (2024), are the new elephant enclosure and new kidzworld still under construction atm? Sad it seems they stopped the sea lion pool construction, hope it continues asap

I was watching a tour of the zoo made around 2022 and there's a marabou stork with the zebras, which is pretty cool. Emus are back, I think I saw a sign mentioning nyala in the giraffe area but I'm not sure and there were some magpie geese in Australasia

Which species of pelican is housed in the sea lion and penguin area? I know great white pelicans are housed in the gibbon island
