    I'm pretty sure the plans are dead by now but does anyone know what happened to the planned takin exhibit? I haven't heard anything about it in over three years [or since this to be specific http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Publications/Enewsletters/2012/June.html]. I know the plan is probably dead but I never found out why they just stopped plans for the exhibit.

    Does anyone have any pictures of the kudus? I haven't been to the zoo since they went on exhibit and I can't find any pictures of them.

    I believe the planned location for this has since become the bison exhibit.

    Exactly. I presume viewing would have been flipped so as to be from Asia Trail instead of Olmstead Walk.

    Some recent births at the Small Mammal House, confirmed by zookeepers or docents:

    * Four tenrecs.
    * Porcupine (unsure if that is from prehensile tailed or North American pair)
    * Chevrotain

    Is she pregnant? National Zoo officials take first ultrasound of giant panda

    "For humans, either you’re pregnant or you’re not. There’s no waffling. But not so for giant pandas."

    "National Zoo officials are hoping giant panda Mei Xiang births another cub, but it’s not easy to tell if she’s pregnant, because of the complicated reproduction cycles of giant pandas."

    "Mei Xiang, the mother of the zoo’s hugely popular panda cub — Bao Bao — was artificially inseminated in the spring with semen from China. Last week, Mei Xiang had her first ultrasound, as zoo keepers try to figure out if she’s with child."

    Two clouded leopards were born via artificial insemination at a zoo in Thailand but Pierre Comizzoli, reproductive physiologist at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute helped with the artificial insemination so the zoo made an article about it.

    Allen's swamp monkeys are currently in the former macaque exhibit (Think Tank). I do not have an accurate count of how many, but I think I saw 1.3 of them.

    3 White-Naped Cranes have hatched. They belong to the same parents but two are being fostered by other pairs.

    There are also 10 litters of black footed ferrets which has produced 37 surviving pups.
