Sea World has added some interesting marine mammal species to their collection plan. Namely: - 14 giraffes - 12 zebras - 1.2 rhinos - 15 elands - 20 blackbucks This is in addition to 1.1 hippopotamus, which we knew they've been interested in for a while. So... a bit of mission creep from Sea World, or is Village Roadshow perhaps planning a new attraction, and are simply using their Sea World ZAA membership for convenience?
This would make things difficult for a number of smaller and 1 larger animal collection in SE Queensland
I presume most of the giraffes would be coming from Monarto's large herd, or possibly also from Dubbo/Werribee
I don't see Nerang having 14 giraffes any time soon. They'll have to build up slowly like anyone else. Monarto *wants* that many giraffes.
I understand that, but I was implying that they eventually will get most of the giraffes from Monarto/Dubbo and possibly a male or two from Werribee. I was not meaning that they will get them in one go.
@Steve Robinson: Are there plans for a new zoo or animal park in Nerang? If so, can you tell me a link to their site or to more information about it in the net please? Thanks.
Yes - there will be a new park at Nerang on the former Paradise Country property. I doubt that you will find much on the net yet. Beyond that my lips are sealed for fear that my informant may be found floating in the Broadwater!!
Monarto will not be giving up giraffes anytime soon, there are many plans that require the large herd, possibly even larger than what they have.
Paradise country still looks open on google? Of course it ay have closed and not deleted site?? Aussie Farm Tour - Paradise Country
Given the right offer Monarto will sell giraffe. I remember people said Taronga would never get gorillas for the olympics $1,000,000 dollars and allot of help from Quantas and Mc Donalds and the received and fantastic fully functioning family group. So l would think as Monarto have the numbers, it is more than likely that some will come from there, and surely they would like to diversify the gene pool. With a cash injection this would be made allot easier.
The animals and trading name were moved to a small site behind other VRS properties on the coastal strip. The former Paradise Country land out at Nerang is where the new facility will eventually be developed. BTW - are you still on track?
