Hey guys. Couldn't think of a creative title that wasn't too long but I have been researching for weeks now on ALL the species Omaha Zoo currently holds. Focusing only on Mammals for right now, I found lots of photographs or mentions in forums and media posts on this site, on national geographic animal ark photographer Joel Sartore, who takes photos of animals even ones most have never seen or heard of took place at Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. And I even browse instagram's Omaha Zoo tag to dig into any mammals I might of missed. Well anyway I am going back to Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo in the middle of August hence why I am doing this. However, the only issue is that many posts or photos from that zoo, happen in 2010 or older. Which is unreliable considering zoos often change animals and when I look up these animals I couldn't find anything recent so can someone clarrify if any of these mammals still in fact live on exhibit at omaha zoo? Thanks! In 2017 none of the quoted species were exhibited (St. Vincent agouti is signed but not actually kept).
I already looked at that list. But the list doesn't include the exhibit building of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom Pavilion. Which does include smaller mammals and other animals as well. In fact literally this exhibit building is the only building never really talked about. So therefore the list doesn't really help when I am trying to make the ultimate list of their mammals. Cause I even look at the even tiny ones no one even talks about.
The mammals in there on my visit were: Desert kangaroo rat Eurasian harvest mouse Cairo spiny mouse Degu
I wasn't aware the building had any animals, everything I read about it just said there were displays and educational stuff for kids so I skipped it. Either way, the post is less than a year old and much more up to date than the list you posted, and includes every single mammal pecies except for the ones jayjds2 mentioned.
I didn't know that was an exhibit building either. What else is in it besides the small mammals? (@jayjds2 you might have this info as well)
Full list on my visit: Eurasian harvest mouse Hog Island boa Saffron finch, silver-beaked tanager, red-crested cardinal, blue-crowned motmot, black skirt tetra, bleeding heart tetra, cardinal tetra, yo-yo loach, Cory juhlii, Congo tetra, common angelfish, black neon tetra Barbour's map turtle Archerfish, four-eyed fish Red-eyed crocodile skink Emperor scorpion Cairo spiny mouse Mexican black kingsnake Mexican redknee tarantula Degu Prehensile-tailed skink Cave rat snake Rhino rat snake Desert kangaroo-rat Salmon pink birdeater tarantula Antilles pink toe tarantula Malagasy blonde hognose snake Chinese crocodile lizard Oriental fire-bellied toad Ornate horned frog Eastern tiger salamander Emperor newt Mississippi gopher frog Gargoyle gecko American toad Giant African bullfrog European glass lizard
Potto's are still at the zoo at my visit in summer 2019. I saw them! Garnett's galagos are still there as well
