Does anyone keep a log of the animals they've seen at zoos?

i just keep a record of the mammals ive seen and which zoo they were at.

you never know, might come in handy in the future!

I only do it for wild animals. Doing it for zoos would be too monumental I think and would rather take the fun out of it if you're just wandering around jotting down names for the whole visit.

I've got species photo lists and Video clips lists from my visits to Chester, Antwerp, Nausicaa sea life centre and Blackbrook. I have also arranged my photos so that I have an album for each species.

I list all the species I photograph but I don't have a list for all the animals I have seen. I've started one for mammals but it doesn't cover everything I ever saw, only what I can remember. I'm not going to attempt any other classes.

I've posted it on a thread in the UK/Ireland zoo section.

Hopefully Blackbrook can establish the species in the UK.

According to their website, Pensthorpe bred Chinese mergansers last year.

Sorry, no offence intended. It's just that my species list is a mental one (slightly fuzzy through age in some cases ) - but I have never seen a Chinese merganser, so Blackbrook or Pensthorpe (or both) are on my 'to do' list - which is another mental one.

I generally just do this for the more rare animals. Like I have only seen one Gharial (Toronto Zoo), three African Wild Dogs (North Carolina Zoo).

I have one for zoo mammals and birds.

However, I miss a lot of subspecies which don't differ at a glance, miss some similar smaller stuff (like zillion of rodent and parrot forms), and don't want twitching to interfere with pleasure of watching animals (like waiting at the enclosure hoping to see sleeping animal).

If only my wild bird & mammal lists were so long...
