Peoria does an Adults-Only night! Adult Only Night at the Zoo (21+ Only) - Peoria Zoo
The cost ($15) is only a couple of dollars more than the regular entry fee. See, it's doable :)

The ones near me always seem to include the cost of alcohol in the ticket price, so they tend to be $$$. My membership zoo for this year charges $100. I just want it to be a regular zoo visit but with no kids, not substituting the kids for drunk people, darn it.

As a parent AND someone who likes a beer at the zoo I find this comment extremely offensive, I can be much better behaved than my children! :p

They would make poor exhibits. They are kinda hard to see even in the wild
(as in clearly). I can't recall ever seeing any of them at a zoo. Except as free flying wild birds.

Hirundines can do extremely well given the right accommodation. Swifts are more difficult to keep well.
I'm not keen on domestics in zoos, but I'm sure I've said that before.

As a former keeper I hate seeing giant pandas in zoos..yes they bring in lots of visitors..but fuels the greed of the government that insist on a fortune being spent to them for pandas on let..should work together..not ebay animals..elephants are a funny one for me.not keen on them in zoos..v dangerous, naturally wander big distances..hard to work with..lot of space needed that could house other species

Years ago I remember reading about a zoo that did an adults only evening. It was around Valentine's Day and the topic of animals mating was the focus.

It was DC I believe, that or Philly. A few others are doing it now, as well. I really wanted to go but was busy that day. It was one that looked very interesting, with informative talks and whatnot.

Except for Great Apes, the primates didn't really attract me so much. Not that I "hated" them (I love any kind of zoo animals), I'm just not interested at them.

Best thread in a Zoo Enthuasiasts Forum ever.

That zoo enthusiasts can hate seeing animals in a zoo, no matter what the reason is, is questionable and interesting at the same time ....

    Why?

I like books. That doesn't mean I enjoy Twilight.

Bit hypocritical for you to post this given the fact it's not unknown for you to wade into the discussion of a rare zoo species and declare you hate the fact they are kept because they are a dead-end in captivity :p

And you should take a closer look at this thread and think about what people are saying. You should read my posts more carefully, because what you are claiming is not true. I criticize some things that affect zoo keeping when it's justified. That's an incredible difference, because I do not "hate" keeping a species in captivity-that's unlikely to equate to criticism. Hate is a terrible word, but apparently there are actually "Zoo Enthusiasts" who "hate" some animals, or "hate" seeing them in zoos-I find that really unbelievable. But otherwise there would not be this wonderful thread, right? I would think twice about whether it really fits here ....

Last time I saw a flip-flop that rapid was the time I tried to say hello and introduce myself to a Zoochatter at Zoohistorica who informed me they did not speak English, only to start speaking animatedly and fluently in English to two of the other Zoochatters I was with when he spotted them 30 seconds later :p
