I don't know the fate of thee animals of the old tropical house, which will soo be replaced by a newer and better one. But with the new south america theming, some species I liked like the luzon bleedng heart or the Eurasian spoonbill

I thought that Cincinnati still had their warty pigs in the old Indian rhino paddock in rhino reserve?

Looking on the forums, Detroit seems to have had a lot of species they phased out over the years.
    • Meerkat: I remember seeing them where the Sloth is now.
    • Hippopotamus: I remember seeing them. Did they demolish the habitat?
    • Sichuan Takin: They were behind the Camels.
    • Lion-Tailed Macaque: This would have been cool to see
    • White-Handed Gibbon: I didn't know these were at Detroit.
    • Southern Pudu: This is the one i remember most about.
    • African Wild Dog: I would have loved to see these.
    • Syrian Brown Bear: Where were these?
    • Bush Dogs: Did they phase these out recently?
    • Scimitar-Horned Oryx: Did they ever keep this species?
    • Przewalski's Wild Horse: I barely remember these.

The Aardvark exhibit was combined with the old hippo pool fairly recently. I’m guessing the Syrian brown bears where exhibited in one of the old bear grottos, and yes, their last bush dog passed away earlier this year.

They get phased out: Like many, Many, species. Do a little poking around before coming to a conclusion.

It's the same reason we won't see Asiatic Black Bear in a few years. People just aren't interested so they get phased out

I think it’s more about conservation than interest

Asian Black Bear is Vulnerable, so in this case it has nothing to do with conservation status.

They are being phased out individually by zoos because the entire population is elderly and there are no young animals to replace those that die. However, that is not a planned phaseout - zoos stopped breeding them for a time because of changes in exhibit planning and concerns over herpesvirus, and by the time the mistake was realized the population was already in a state of demographic free fall. Only fix now would be with imports from abroad (which has been recommended by the relevant oversight panel and breeding program), which only one zoo has so far done.

Here is where the information has been posted on the forum previously: News from the Animal kingdom [Disney's Animal Kingdom® Park]

That is incorrect. Asiatic Black Bears were slated for phaseout because there was not enough room to accommodate four viable populations of tropical bear species and their population was less viable than sloth (another Asian species) and Andean bears. I suspect that the average visitor likes bears and does not much care what kind they are, besides polar bears and giant pandas.

Just wondering where you got that information because now I'm interested in why they are phasing out this species.
