Just a little bit of fun to start the new year. The embedded collage contains images from different zoos, all taken last summer during my month in Europe. All of the photos depict sculptuary of some kind, each from a different zoo. There are five pictures and therefore five zoos to identify: the four numbered windows and the one in the background. Additionally, there are two bonus points for correctly naming the individuals in (1) and (3) respectively. So that's seven points in total.

The winner will be the first to six points. Please give complete guesses; I will tell you how many correct answers you give but not which specific guesses are right. Also, don't just list five zoos, I want to know which sculpture is from which zoo.

The game will end next Wednesday. If no-one has won by then the member with most points will be declared victorious. I will release clues if and when I deem it appropriate to move things forward.

Right - let's kick off (mainly guesses!):

    1. Gerald Durrell statue, at Pilsen
    2. Eagle, at Dour Kralove
    3. Heinrich Dathe, at Berlin Tierpark
    4. Vulture, at Prague Zoo
    5. Whale fountain, at Usti nad Labem.

A solid double (two points) for Sooty at the start of his innings. Will he bat himself in and go on to score some boundaries?

Great thread concept, love it (although not so much the cricket references :p)

I have no idea on where any of the sculptures are though, but I recognised Durrell.

Thanks :) The execution may be a little off this time but I'm pleased with the concept; it maybe just needs some development and refinement.

Ihave lots of different sports metaphors for any other contestants :p

I don't want to reveal too much at this point but I think you may have more idea than you think....

I recognised the Dathe plaque, as this is the only one I have seen in person ;)

Even though I've been to Tierpark and Prague as well, I only recognised the statue of Gerald Durrell in Plzen. My other guesses would only be based on Google results and other people's guesses. :p

Just to steer some people away from an incorrect assumption, please note that as Sooty Mangabey guessed both Durrell at Plzen and Dathe at Berlin and scored two points, he cannot be correct on both counts

Here is a little information to try and coax a few more players out in the last few days of the game:
Picture 1: A major Czech Zoo
Picture 2: A major Czech Zoo
Picture 3: A major German Zoo
Picture 4: A small UK Zoo
    Background: An obscure Czech Zoo

For anyone who's interested, here are the answers:

Picture 1: Gerald Durrell, Plzen Zoo
    Picture 2: Prague
Picture 3: Kurt Priemel, Frankfurt Zoo
Picture 4: Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park
    Background: Chomutov Zoopark

As something of a first try this was probably best described as a qualified failure. I think in trying to avoid making it too easy I stumbled in the other direction. Next year I'll try to stick to major zoos and more recognisable statues. Maybe I'll try an architecture version as well. Thanks to those who played.
