Hello, I am joining to get information, advice, and words of caution/success from others who have started, or are currently running a zoo. Our Project (Lincoln Zoo and Refuge) will be located about 30 minutes north of Sacramento California. We are in planning and development stages and do not anticipate taking on our first animals for the next few months. Starting with a small/medium animal rescue and developing to accommodate larger animals as time and funds allow, with our goal being a full fledged teaching / nonprofit educational Zoo. Any and all advice on costs, operations, daily zoo activities, ideas for creative enclosures, fundraising and the business side of running a non profit zoo will be greatly appreciated and will help. Also any advise that current or former directors of zoos and refuges could give our board of directors to avoid the costly pitfalls I am sure only experience can teach us. Thank You for the help Joe
Our of curiosity with the Sacramento Zoo, Folsom Zoo, and PAWS in the vicinity of Lincoln, isn't the market for rescue facilities and zoos pretty much saturated?
