New birth: Champrepus welcomed a single female cub on 6th November 2011. They have named her Dourga

Cubs parents are Chandra - Born 16.7.07 at Heidelburg (transfered to Champrepus from Edinburgh in March 2011) and Oscar (aka Paco) who was born at Tregomeur, France on 18th April 1998 (arrived at Champrepus in 2003)

2011 was certinley a year for Sumatran cubs! (0:2 at Praha, 0:2 (surviving) at Chester + a pair of male Twins at Frankfurt and WHF respectivly

Another new birth: 18.02.12 three cubs (two males and female) born at Warszawa Zoo. Father is Iban (on loan from Frankfurt) and mother is Ratu.

 

It`s great news that Chandra (ex Heidelberg) is raising her cub!! Her mother rejected her and she was first hand-raised by the keepers and when a few months old, she was introduced to her father who teached her how to be a tiger. I guess she is much better socialized and had better odds in becoming a sucessful tiger mom then a tiger who spent his whole infancy alone or with humans.

 

Doesn't seem that long ago since Chandra was in Edinburgh.

 

0.2 from lisboa (born 2009) arrived at Rheine/Germany last Thursday.

Heidelberg male, Timophi aka Sabu passed away in 2011 aged 18/19 (his birthday is in November but no date is given for his passing) He was born at Berlin Tierpark in November 1992 to Morris and Dinara... The first of many cubs for Morris!

For now, Heidelberg are left with his mate Kim (Rotterdam, 2000 Musi X Hermes) Death is noted at the bottom of the article..

Recent updates:

Krefeld welcomed a new litter in March (Sutera DORTMUND, 2000 X Beludra BERLINZOO, 2000) No numbers/genders etc confirmed as yet although early reports suggest their is more than one cub

Le Parc De Felins are currently building a second exhibit for Sumatran Tigers. It is expected to be completed later in 2012 and will house a breeding pair which will be a first for LPDF who have previously only held elderly Sumatran's until now.
The first half of this new pair (the male) has already been sourced from Honolulu Zoo, USA. Assuming he beats the upcoming ZSL pair (apparently from the USA and Australia) then he will be the first import from outside Europe in 10 years (last one was December 2002!)

Death

Santilliana; male 'Igna' died in 2011 this was probably due to old age as he was born in 1990. Santilliana are not looking into acquiring a new pair yet, but they are looking into it in the future.
