Till date 74 eggs have hatched over the January - February 2019 timeframe. The eggs had been laid in the nesting season from July-August 2018 and were deposited by 7 different females. The total current population at KBS has gone up to 142 at this time. The 74 hatchlings are held in a separate enclosure. Medium sized dragons currently occupy several other exhibits, whereas the adults are maintained at the main Komodo dragon area in the zoo.

    Surabaya Zoo in 2021

The zoo's aquarium and reptile park

The zoo still have many bad exhibits, some were unsuitable for the animals (In my opinion). The binturong exhibit is one of the good exhibit so far I see.

The Surabaya Zoo bred from 3 female Komodo dragons and 2 different breeding males. In total 28 eggs were laid by the 3 females. Breeding pairs: M Boi mated with FF Genok and Juminten, whereas M Agustin mated with F Home..

Male Bobby was part of the breeding program and sire to all of their current offspring. The dam is named Wendy. Both are / were genetically very valuable.

I wonder if you can check what is the plan now with their anoa is.

As far as anoa is concerned they should have: 2.4 individuals, of which 1.3 (male Memo and females Fitri, Ribut and Okta) are offspring from breeding pair Bobby x Wendy. Can you find out what their current status is?

I do hope they have changed the compositions to reflect better breeding options. It is a absolute must in order to increase numbers of anoas in captivity in Indonesia.

Surabaya Zoo has revitalized their "diorama and nocturama" or museum and nocturnal house. Notable display is an dugong skeleton, a former living inhabitant of the zoo (Yes, you didn't read that wrong).

During a mangrove planting event, Surabaya Zoo attended and contributed in the event by releasing over 10 birds, which include little black cormorants and black-headed ibises.

Surabaya Zoo has once again participated in a Mangrove Festival, held by the local government of East Java, and took part by releasing several birds into the wild, most specificly in a mangrove coast on the southern part of the island of Madura. The birds in question are little black cormorants, the number of them are unspecified.
