I was chatting with Sim the other day and we decided it would probably be a good idea to have a get-together for all the Sydney-siders, so we can actually meet everyone and put faces to nicknames.

The date will be Saturday July 2nd (2011), in a little over three weeks time.

A location has not been chosen yet, I thought I'd leave that for a quick discussion of ideas (one week perhaps?) and then select what seems easiest or most popular.

I'd prefer a decent pub or club (clubs usually have a more relaxed and convivial atmosphere) but that would mean some of the younger members would be excluded.

Another option would be one of the zoos/fauna parks in the Sydney area - Taronga, Sydney Wildlife World, Sydney Aquarium, Featherdale, Australian Reptile Park, Symbio etc. The problem with a place like that is, people tend to keep wandering off to look at things (which is not necessarily a bad thing), but you don't have a relaxed atmosphere where you can sit for a couple hours and just talk/argue/solve the problems of the world.

Or maybe there is some other venue you can think of that would be appropriate to our needs?

And although I said in the first paragraph "Sydney-siders" obviously any one from ZooChat who is in Sydney that day would be welcome.

So what do you think? Any venue you are especially keen to meet at?

    :p

Great idea Hix - thanks for posting.

Although I find them overpriced, Sydney Aquarium/Wildlife World might be a good choice because they are central and easy to get to - and we could find a cafe or restaurant afterwards to sit at and talk.

The question everyone needs to consider is - should we meet at a zoo/park/etc, or just at a cafe/restaurant/pub? I don't mind much either way.

And as Sydney's Wildlife World will soon be partially remodelled into a waxworks, for anyone that hasn't visited yet this might be a good opportunity.

I think out of all the Sydney Zoos Featherdale is the most relaxed, I have just sat around there watching the aviaries for hours without being disturbed!

I'm in for it, by the way, where ever it is ;)

Would love to go but if I'm not working I'll be in Victoria picking up dingo puppies that weekend.

Horrible animals. Like boof said, would be good to put faces to names. But if Anyone is out west around that time two of my dingo bitches need socializing with lots of different people ;)

Would love to meet up with folks but other plans sadly. Hopefully there will be another such get-together.

I am surprised there is not more interest too. Ithought Jabiru96 would have been the first to jump in!

Would Sunday the 3rd be any better for people? I know someone who could meet on the Sunday at Darling Harbour (Sydney Wildlife World).

    Anyone else?

    :p

Sorry for the late reply. I have just got home from a week in Singapore. Symbio would be good.

I work day shift on the friday then I start 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. If it's easier for you to meet up in Sydney so be it. I would only be able to spend a couple of hours in the morning anyway before work.
