    Rio Napo Tamarins arrived

The rich collection of Callitrichinae of Szeged Zoo was enriched an additional species in the recent past: an extremely rare Rio Napo Tamarins arrived to the zoo from Jihlava Zoo. The two animal are siblings, but Szeged Zoo would like to exchange one of them due to breed this rarely exhibited species.

    Spotted Hyena cubs

Two Spotted Hyena cubs were born on the 23rd of May 2009. The youngsters are healthy. Their sex are unknown yet, but the DNA-based gender identification will be shown the results soon.

Good news for the European population, as Hyena birth is not a frequent event.

I'm a *little* bit late with this, but this is pretty cool news. I checked ISIS and it shows only three zoos with Saguinus graellsi, two in the Czech Republic and one in Hungary. Are there others elsewhere (e.g. South America), and did Szeged Zoo get unrelated animals to breed from?

What other zoo beside Jihlava maintains and perhaps breeds the species.
It would be advisable to increase the founder base. What is the chance for fresh imports from S.America?

Does anyone know what happened to the vampire bats imported to here in 2014? According to ZTL, they are no longer in the collection.

    From where, may I ask?

BTW: there is a distinction between Alpine and Balkan/Tatra chamois!
