For those unaware of the recent trend, an "iceberg" is essential a chart of how deep a certain topic goes. After nearly 18 years the ZooChat community has grown exponentially with thousands of members. Some make an account to ask one question about their local zoo and are never seen or heard from again. However, some make a lasting mark on the community over several years and have cemented themselves in ZooChat lore. This iceberg has several different levels of depth. The Sky is the basics - some of the most popular and well known pieces of media on the site. The Tip is the general stuff that one would learn about after just a while on the site. Once we get into the water is when things get murky, those who do not frequent the site consistently may not understand some topics. The Center is where experienced members of at least a few years should understand most topics. Near the end is where only long time members or prolific somewhat recent members should understand. The bottom contains topics that only some of the older members will get. Anyway, here is the ZooChat iceberg. See how many you can identify and if there are any other moments that deserve a mention, please do not hesitate to add.
After about 7 or so months of constantly visiting zoochat every day, I can say that I recognize most of The Tip and Into The Water, but not too much else. Some things that might be added is the 'are these in captivity' threads and maybe 'Baby at Duisburg' (Or is that just included in April Fools?)
Mind explaining what exactly? I definitely had more trouble with the deeper half so if I misplaced some things it wouldn't surprise me . Tarzan - the man of many faces - is one of the many names of a bizarre and aggressive member who constantly made absurd posts and was eventually banned. Apparently things got really bad near the end of his time here.
Well, for a start you have some pretty recent examples at the very bottom, but references that are getting on for a decade old higher up than that! I'd also argue that outside of a relatively small clique most of the fantasy forum references are a lot less well-known than you think They did, but the less said about that the better
The zoochat chatroom ? you mean the discord ? Out of curiosity, why isn't the discord freely open to everyone ? How do you access it ?
Not quite. Prior to the creation of the discord there was another chatroom that was only ever really used by prolific members. It was rather lackluster compared to the existing discord.
Good to see Zoo Decisions made your list @pachyderm pro! It’s ZooChat’s most successful fantasy game to date - coming second in the thread of the year competition twice; and being the only fantasy thread in ZooChat history to make it to the final of a thread of the year competition.
Is there a reason why Turkish IPs were banned form making accounts for a while? When I tried to sign up I wasn't able yo make my account You also forgot how koalas are actually possums.
It was actually in copious and regular use by a large number of members - and was integrated into the site itself. Basically, the intention was for a new and improved Discord-based chatroom to roll out with the next site update, which would allow it to be integrated into the site as the old one was - but due to the pandemic slowing the update a bit, and Sim wanting to give the forum members something to occupy themselves with, he brought the chatroom plans forward in part. So we have the chatroom, but as it's not integrated yet Sim has made it invite-only as a mechanism of keeping it under control until it IS integrated. But invites are readily available from him on request. I would assume there had been a rash of spammers from Turkish IP addresses - I know at one point we had a similar block on somewhere in South Asia, and another on a Central African country.
