I also have this photo, which doesn't show the male's plumes but does show a female.

I was going to go to Halmahera to look for this bird on my next trip, but it's changed to somewhere else now.

Cooooooooool thread! One of my most favourite bird families, if not the most! Thanks for include my pic in it.
So, you go to include taxidermy specimen pics in the thread too? I have quite a number of species photographed in museums, sadly most are bad quality images but there are some species not represented. Are you interetested in some of the next species from which I have images?

-Astrapia splendidissima helios (the one that you uploaded in the thread)
    -Astrapia stephaniae
    -Cicinnurus magnificus
    -Cicinnurus regius
    -Cicinnurus respublica
    -Drepanornis albertisi
    -Lophorina superba
    -Manucodia chalybata
    -Paradisaea apoda
    -Paradisaea minor
    -Paradisaea raggiana
    -Paradisaea rubra
    -Paradisaea rudolphi
    -Parotia carolae
    -Parotia lawesii
    -Parotia sefilata
    -Phonygrammus keraudrenii
    -Pteridophora alberti
    -Ptiloris magnificus
    -Seleucidis melanoleuca
    -Semioptera wallacei

Indeed; normally I prefer to avoid using photos of taxidermy specimens but given the wide range of form and colour in this group I felt it was a worthy stopgap whilst we hope for more live photographs :p

Feel free to upload shots of those species which do not already have photographs in the thread :)

OK, so here you have the species not pictured yet: Astrapia stephaniae, Drepanornis albertisi, Manucodia chalybata, Paradisaea rudolphi, Parotia carolae, Parotia sefilata, Pteridophora alberti

I hope they can be substituted some day for alive specimens (we all would love to see these species in zoos!) Cheers - I shall get them into the relevant places now.

As noted above, a few of them *are* currently in zoological collections, and others have been within living memory..... so you never know. The Crinkle-collared Manucode especially has a decent shot of being uploaded to the gallery, given the fact the last one in Europe died only 10 years ago, was housed with perhaps the most widely-photographed individual Bird-of-Paradise in the zoo world, and there are certainly photographs of the individual in question on ZTL :p

Could you please upload them into the gallery, actually? :) if they are attachments I cannot insert them within text, only at the end of a post.

@TeaLovingDave I've forgot to mention that they're in the "France - Other" and "Germany-Other" galleries, for easy finding!

    Excellent thread, of course!

Olmense Zoo has a taxidermied individual of one of the Epimachus species - I believe brown sicklebill. I'll try and dig around to see if I took any pictures of it on one of my few visits.

EDIT: Found them! I'll upload a few in Olmen's gallery! ;)

Now that I look back at the photo, I am no longer sure which Superb BOP it is.

But it's not Greater, so it's helpful either way.
