While two-toed sloth is more common in captivity,I want to know about the status of three-toed sloth in captivity.I only know that Dallas world aquarium and zoo de guyane(according to zootierliste)have this species in them now.
I know about the Dallas World Aquarium, but I don't know about any other zoos outside Central or South America. Zootierliste lists several zoos that have kept the pale-throated three-toed sloth (Bradypus trivirgata): Berlin Aquarium unter den Linden (1873); Berlin Zoologischer Garten - 3 weeks in 1957); Frankfurt (1914); Hamburg (1879); Hannover (4 days in 1989); Munich (1933); Wuppertal (1963); Rotterdam (until 1910); Lisbon; Madrid (1991); London (1863-?1886). I'm surprised that Hannover and Madrid kept the species so recently.
the thread linked by Tim May has a post by Saro saying that the Hannover specimen was a confiscated specimen (presumably at the airport) and died after two weeks.
Does anyone have any information about the following individual at Ogród Zoologiczny Opole in Poland? It’s labeled as a three-toed sloth, and has the right body for one, but only has two toes. Is it simply a misidentification (that has fooled me as well) or has it just slipped under the radar? Bradypus tridactylus | ZooChat
or perhaps just a mistake in putting the wrong name. I've done that before when I'm not paying attention to what I'm writing. I think it's the same individual as in this photo in any case: Linne's Two-toed Sloth | ZooChat
I agree with you- although it seems that that individual between 2015 and 2017 lost quite a bit of hair!
