Which big cats can you see at the zoo right now?
And will they all be visible in the summer?

As in, are there any big cats visible at the Tierpark or the zoo?

Not too much given that the whole area of the ABH House is as yet cordonned off.

    Thanks
What about in the summer ?

I am going to one or the other this summer, so which one would you recommend in terms of big cats and/or generally

I doubt if any of the preliminary works, e.g. the sun bear exhibit, will be open by then. I am tending more towards the autumn 2019 before any first parts' will be completed.

A couple big cats were visible last September when myself, @ThylacineAlive and @TeaLovingDave visited. Malayan tiger, Siberian tiger, snow leopard and (if you knew where to look at a certain gap in the construction fence) Javan leopard and Sumatran tiger. A few of their small carnivores are still onshow (Central American margay, Palawan leopard cat, Dongola small spotted genet, Philippine common palm civet, honey badger, banded mongoose)

How long does it take to renovate it though? The renovations started 2 years ago!!!

Well Berlin's new airport was supposed to open in 2011, and is still at least a year away from completion. It seems German efficiency is not what it used to be ;)

Well it's not like they're just giving the inside a facelift, it's going to be a brand new exhibit by the end.

I was referring to the Wirtschaftswunder and later period, nothing sinister was implied

Nothing to do with that. Admittedly, most local zoo afficionados have not been amused with the slow progress at ABH House ...., just on starting up this 2nd round upgrading of the building it was found to be in a deplorable state and some unexpected hiccups there required large scale removals and shoring up the ABH prior to any redesign and renovations could move forward. This explains the delays and all.

Is the ABH listed in any form? If so then I imagine any problems just get more convoluted, and the paperwork must be a bloody nightmare! ;)

According to the question above (because I was certain, but after reading the thread I've felt little concerned then) - do you think, the young sumatran tigers are on show?
I'm planning a "Sumatran tiger trip" and my first step would be a Berlin, so probably I'm interested in this topic as much as @amur leopard.

Right well, problem is (almost) solved, because I will also be going to Leipzig zoo (again), so I won't miss out on big cats, I will see enough ove in Leipzig. I will still go to the Tierpark though - I want to see Hertha :)

@sooty mangabey, thank you! I suppose they might be visible now - I will give this a check probably in June so I could write here (or elsewhere) what species are on show.

PS. @amur leopard, I understand that, Leipzig has a nice species on beautiful exhibits (however they don't have sumatrans...) :) I'm also planning trips to Rheine and Osnabrueck, so I could say the same, I will be enough of big cats at the end of a trip, however these Berlin's cubs are important to me to photograph ;).
