Tierpark Bochum has a long tradition in keeping and breeding Greater flamingos. During 2012 the enclosure was completly renovated and it took 3 years for the 22 birds to settle down to start again breeding-attemps. 10 eggs were laid - a record for Bochum - but only one chick hatched in August and this one was raised succesfully. In September another egg was laid but because of low night-temperatures the egg was taken away and placed in the incubator. Here it hatched Oct. 2 and the chick is now being hand-raised.
To give the general public a better view about the work done in and by zoos a special rearing-part has been opened where visitor can view how young animals are being raised. At the moment 2 species can be seen here : 3 Mertens water monitors hatched in April and June this year and 1 Rhino iguana which hatched at the end of 2015.
Last year Tierpark Bochum recieved 2 males and 4 females Blue bamboo day-geckos from Zoo Frankfurt. Still before placed on display 2 females laid each 2 eggs and now all four have hatched : Gecko-Großfamilie zieht in den Tierpark Bochum

New species at Tierpark Bochum : Northern dry-zone slender loris - Loris lydekkerianus nordicus - 1.0 from Frankfurt - 0.1 from Antwerp
Last year the Tierpark recieved a confiscated Ringed tree boa - Corallus annulatus annulatus. First this female was kept behind the scenes but now this only specimen in an European zoo has been placed in an enclosure in the Aquarium-house. It can be seen as soon as the zoo will open again ( as it looks now this will be the middle of February ).
Some news from the past weeks or months: - As said in the Dortmund thread by someone, the Tierpark has recently given away two of its Cuvier's Dwarf Caimans, one went to Dortmund, the other to Emsflower in Emsbüren, which interestingly is some kind of market garden, it seems (never been there). There is still one pair left at Bochum - The slender loris, which arrived last year, already had a first young in January. It was made public later on, as the new "Asienwelten" (literally "asia worlds") house that opened last year is still closed due to the pandemic. The other species exhibited there are: sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps), long-eared hedgehog (Hemiechinus auritus), those three are only visible in the nocturnal indoor area, as well as malayan binturong (Arctictis binturong binturong), asian small-clawed otter (Aonyx cinerea), Indian crested porcupine (Hystrix indica) which are also visible outside. There is also one aviary containing eastern hill myna (Gracula religiosa religiosa) as well as crested partridge (Rollulus rouloul) and nicobar pigeon (Caloenas nicobarica). - Another species not reported here I think are two (?) Northern Little ringed plover (Charadrius dubius curonicus) in the North Sea aviary, though they are not signed.
As stated in the Duisburg thread, the Tierpark took over the last two seals from there, which brings the total number of seals to six, according to the park's Facebook. They also hope to breed with them (again?) in the future.
