From Facebook: The Toledo Zoo is sad to report that one of its most beloved animals, 47-year-old Lulu, our geriatric female southern white rhinoceros, died comfortably in her sleep overnight of natural causes. Lulu had been a Toledo Zoo resident for nearly 30 years. At 47, she was estimated to be the seventh oldest white rhino in a U.S. zoological institution. Lulu enjoyed a good life at the Toledo Zoo and her long tenure is a testament to the excellent care she received. “Lulu was a cherished member of the Toledo Zoo for nearly three decades, during which millions of visitors marveled at her in wonder. She was an amazing ambassador for her species and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts go out to all who loved her, especially to her keepers that cared for her for so many years,” said the Zoo’s executive director, Jeff Sailer. Lulu’s longtime companion, Sam, age 42, continues to reside in Tembo Trail where animal care staff will provide additional enrichment and closely monitor his behavior.
The zoo is seeking a renewal operating levy in November that will be reduced because of the zoo is in a better place than it was with the last operating levy. Toledo Blade

Warthogs, maned wolves, and pelicans are only mentioned on the website version of the map right now. Since there is no date for them to be out on exhibit, this is understandable. An updated in-zoo map will likely be handed hot later. The sloth and the pacas are not mentioned on the current in-zoo map, but they are on the website map. Both species are on exhibit. The brown bears are on both maps.
Did the zoo ever get their new pair of snow leopards? I know they planned on sending the original female to Syracuse after her mate died but I never heard anything about the new cats.
