I am extremely curious why it is taking them so long to complete this relatively small renovation. Do you think it is because the museum is also in renovation?
The zoo has certainly been quiet about the renovation. I am a member and have heard nothing. I have heard nothing about the Museum either. They were upfront about last year's renovations to the Aviary. Something new must be going to be added. Perhaps a higher profile species.
This has to be a major project, on their Snapchat story they stated that they were remodeling some exhibits and getting new species.
I just saw this part of the Museum on the video portion of Instagram and nothing seen here in this photo is currently present. They are using it for their job fair.
With all the date changes, I asked Toledo again via email about the Aviary. It will reopen in early May and no news about the renovation until around it reopens. I wonder what is going on in there. To steal Kings Island's tag line for Mystic Timbers, instead of 'What's in the Shed?" it should be "What's in the Aviary?" The Museum of Science is now closed for renovation into a natural history museum. It will not be open this summer.
They are doing so much neededrenovation within the zoo, like the Aviary, Nairobi Pavilion and The Museum, but I wish they accomplished the renovations quicker. Does anyone know why the zoo isn't going in order for their master plan?
The zoo was able to acquire a former restaurant near the zoo to renovate for administration and guest services offices. This saves them from building a new building for this. This is complete. The preschool is going on hiatus so it can move where guest services was located. The master plan ordered was moved around since the pieces are in place for the Museum of Science renovations. Nairobi Pavilion renovation into the Malawi Event Center frees the Museum from holding larger events. I expect Aviary renovations will allow there to be something new this summer since the Museum exhibits are currently closed.
I emailed the zoo because I cannot find any mention of Keet Retreat on their website. I do not know what it's status is currently.
Keet Retreat will not return this summer to the Toledo Zoo & Aquarium. A replacement has not been announced.
