What are 10 zoos within Europe you really want to (re)visit in the coming years? Mine are: Leipzig Zurich Berlin Zoo Berlin Tierpark Praha Plzen Walsrode Copenhagen Beauval Dublin
Leipzig Prague Walsrode Plzen Antwerp Burgers Zoo Randers Loro Parque Lisbon Vienna We are hoping to take a trip somewhere between Christmas and New year, current favourite is Lisbon, but it depends on costs.
I would like to visit the following 1.Zoo Wroclaw 2.Prague Zoo 3.Krokodile Zoo 4.Copenhagen Zoo 5.Duisberg Zoo 6.Rotterdam 7.Leipzig 8.Zooparc De Beauval 9.Salzburg Zoo 10.Berlin Tierpark
Lisbon is probably the most affordable one with the best weather for that time of year, Czechia is also relatively cheap, but can be really cold in winter with some bad luck...
In no particular order other than alphabetical: Berlin Tierpark Budapest Zoo Cologne Zoo Diergaarde Blijdorp Duisburg Zoo (as long as the river dolphin is there - when it dies, Duisburg won't make it to my top 10, probably not my top 20 either) Pairi Daiza Plzen Zoo Tierpark Hellabrunn Wroclaw Zoo ZooParc de Beauval
Prague Plzen Berlin Berlin TP Rotterdam Arnhem Pairi Daiza Doue La Fontaine Vienna Wroclaw No order of preference.
These are the ten that I am most looking forward to visiting for which plans exist, albeit loosely: Arnhem Rotterdam Apenheul Antwerp Pairi Daiza Budapest Vienna Zlin Wroclaw Leipzig Honorary mentions for zoos that I don't expect to get to any time soon: Munich Stuttgart Nuremburg Jardin des Plants Beauval
I don't know the name of it, but there is one I saw years ago on TV that's in France. The vulture exhibit is in a quarry and the birds are fully flighted and mostly free range.
are they actually fully-flighted? I just posted a comment on the photo of the exhibit and all the videos I've seen of it appear to show obviously wing-clipped birds. Ghosts of the Himalayas Exhibit - Vulture Amphitheatre | ZooChat
I think the aviary mentioned might be the South American one with (fully-flighted) Andean condor and king vulture. I may be wrong though, that happens occasionally!
ah, could be. From the "mostly free range" bit I assumed the arena thing, but that may have just been because that's what I was looking at a few minutes before.
That's definitely Bioparc Doue La Fontaine. I visited recently and actually think I enjoyed it more than Beauval. The free-flight bird aviary was amazing, especially at feeding time. The vulture arena is massive. I guess they are clipped but didn't ask. Either that or they know it's a good source of food so why go anywhere else. On top of that the Okapi sanctuary exhibit was fantastic: Okapi, free remaining Owl monkeys, and lots of birds such as painted stokes, goliath herons, vultures, Hammerkops and many others in a jungle-like setting.
No particular order, and with revisits marked: Tierpark Berlin Zoo Berlin Antwerp Arnhem Pairi Daiza Walsrode Vienna Plzen Wroclaw Duisburg (if the river dolphin survives until I have the chance) Parc des Felins (if it does not)
I'll choose 10 I've not been to, but will definitely be going back to both Berlin! No order Budapest Prague Vienna Duisburg Cologne Beauval Parc de Felins Antwerp Wroclaw Leipzig
1. Berlin Zoo 2. Berlin Tierpark 3. Plzen 4. Duisburg 5. Artis 6. Vienna 7. Leipzig 8. Wuppertal 9. Cologne 10. Frankfurt There are loads more that I could have put on the list, it was hard to cut it down to 10. Never having been to any mainland European zoo, the possibilities were endless!
1) Berlin Tierpark 2) Pairi Diazi 3) Polar Zoo 4) Berlin Zoo 5) Plzen 6) Frankfurt 7) Chester 8) Burger Zoo 9) Gaia Zoo 10) Kristiansand Dyrepark
Regarding the vultures at Bioparc Doue La Fontaine, I was under the impression they were not wing clipped as I thought I had heard on the documentary that the trees in the quarry prevented them from having enough space to actually take off. As I mentioned, I saw this years ago so could be mistaken.
