Not that this is news to us but the zoo did announce tigers, Vasili and Kira's, arrivals. Meet Kira and Vasili - 2 new additions to the Toronto Zoo's big cat family | CBC News
Caribou are finally back at the zoo!!! Our new caribou are Daphne, Henna, Mimi, Mitella, Muriel, Rowan, Raven, Hyacinth, Delilah, Meadow, and Rosa! A much welcomed addition to Tundra Trek!
@TZDugong you are mistaking lone surviving reindeer, Snowy, with a caribou. She will be integrated into the group for socialization. It's been more than 20 years since the zoo was home to caribou. The zoo's facebook announcement didn't list their origin. It also didn't mention which subspecies they are. However its an all female herd at the moment.
@TZDugong I think it's easy to make the mistake between reindeer and caribou. They are essentially the same animal. Caribou are bigger but you cannot really tell that when we have only one of the two species. And considering everything else in Tundra Trek are Canadian its easy to think the herd had been caribou. Might not be a big change for Tundra Trek... heck most people probably dont even know it is a change but having a full herd of anything is great for Tundra Trek. Just think over a year ago Tundra Trek had 3 bears, 1 owl, 1 reindeer and 3 wolves. Now its up to 5 bears, 9 wolves, 11 caribou, 2 foxes, still 1 owl and 1 reindeer. Much more life to enjoy.
@meadowvale you are right I always forget about the snow geese. The zoo does have more than two though. I think they may have as many at least 5 though you rarely see more than two.
that area of the americas pavillion is probably one of the smelliest ones >.< that and the rhino/tapir when they were around
Hey Guys - new member here! Visited the zoo yesterday, always love going in the fall as there is fewer people. Does anyone know where the Lino-Tailed Macaques went? I know they moved the baby Clouded Leopard into their enclosure but was wondering where they went?
Ah ok, thanks. Off that note does anyone know any of the zoos plans for 2019 in regard to breeding or acquiring new species?
